We love it here.
Big Run Park, known as Big Run Fun since it's first use in 2010, is an amazing venue for short track AND cyclocross. The park features the only soap box derby hill in central Ohio. While it doesn't feature a lot of elevation it allows for a lot of sweeping up and down, grinding 30-45 second punches and some of the nastiest off cambers out there.
And yes, there's A LOT of course tape. The park is long, not wide.
It's also as centrally located as we can get right now and know that our summer race program isn't always convenient for everyone but we try our best to accommodate the rest!
Cap City Collective (501(c)3) is a non-profit organization formed specifically out of the need to develop a full-time off-road cycling training/racing facility in Columbus, specifically Big Run Park – Derby Hill, to meet the current demand and also assist in the growth and development of the sport. Currently, our main focus is acting as a liaison between the city of Columbus, local race series, and local cycling clubs with a focus on venue management. Other long term goals include the development of regular programming at Big Run that strives to lower the barriers to entry for youth and women into the sport of cycling.
Cap City Collective currently operates all of its practices, clinics and races at Big Run Park - Derby Hill, which has graciously been offered for off-road cycling activities by the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.
The non-profit currently functions under a long-term agreement with the city and a mutual agreement with Columbus Soap Box Derby. Cap City Collective has formed strong partnerships with groups such as Cap City Cyclocross (the CX/STXC race series), Lady Gnar Shredders (all-women’s cycling team) and COMBO (Central Ohio Mountain Bike Organization). Cap City Collective works with these organizations to help them hold CX/STXC races that are very welcoming and beginner friendly, organize clinics for underserved populations of the community and hold fundraisers that benefit local trails systems.
